Eight Months of Henry

Cool dude,

I have no idea where it originated but somewhere in the last few months I’ve started rapping for you.  Along the way, Dad’s added to it, and before we knew it, we’ve dressed you up as DJ Henny P! In case you haven’t caught on, your family is really silly, and it’s always a teeny bit crazy. But it’s a blast! You laugh so easily, but in the last week or so, I’ve really started clocking the different ways you smile and laugh. A big laugh is easy to get from you-a goofy face or a silly noise and you’re giggling so hard. What I’ve found is that the cutie tootie smirk or chuckle is actually your true laugh, and you are pickier about when and to whom you give those out to. It’s my favorite when I get a smile across the room just because. I’m glad to know you welcome the crazy because we have a lifetime of laughs to go!

At the risk of embarrassing you, here it is:

It's the OKC

You can be my okla-homie and

Play with me

We can play dinosaurs

or play in my room

We’ll make such a big mess

“Yo, mom! Get the broom!”

I’ve got a big smile

And I’m serving up the fun

Dance around with me

Like earth orbiting the sun

Milk/food:

You are officially a baby led wean-y! We started food this month, and I’m so excited! To have you at the table is just the tiniest taste of what the days ahead of having three kids (not just babies) looks like, and my heart is happy. So far, you’ve tried (trying meaning it was served to you and you tasted it) 23 foods. It’s easier with you in so many ways because genetically, you are at lower risk of food allergies. That and the fact that four of us eat regular food, it’s just easy to serve you what we’re having.

You are still at four ounces of milk every three ish hours except for right before bed, you double up and eat almost two bottles in one hour.

Sleep:

Naps are finally on a regular routine! I wouldn’t say schedule because our days look different and sometimes you baby snooze in the car, but two naps is where we’re at. The predictability has made our days easier because we know how to work backwards from bedtime to make sure you’re getting enough sleep in the day so you aren’t over tired when it’s time to lay down.

For night sleep, we’re sloooooowwwly working on getting you to sleep through the night. We’re weaning your night milk to three ounces now, and we’ll start two ounces soon. Then we’ll go to one and then start a super gentle reassurance at night. For lots of reasons I just cant do a quick sleep training with you. I’m ready to sleep but I stare at you at night and know it won’t be forever.

Favorite moments:

Getting sick-hear me out. Based on the label, it sounds crazy. To be very clear, getting sick and watching you be sick was absolutely awful. We all had the stomach bug 24 hours apart; you were the last to get it. I’ve never had a baby that small throw up, and it was heartbreaking!! But the happy part of it was watching us all rally and work together. The five of us somehow all took care of each other, and it proved again how great of a team we are!

Auburn afternoon-we had the most terrific afternoon in Auburn this month. After nap, we headed to town. We made a stop by the cookie shop for vegan cookies and played in the green space for over an hour. After a lap around campus where we stopped to pet lots of puppies, we ate at Whataburger. Everyone was in the best mood, the sun was shining, and it was the sweetest!

Dude, you're the coolest baby I know! Keep spinning those beats, and we'll keep dancing along!

Love,

Mom
