Seven Months of Henry

My hungry caterpillar,

Look at that face! That about sums it all up! You are all sunshine and expression and joy! This month has been a blast with you, watching you pick favorite toys, interacting more with your siblings, and sitting at the table with us. We dressed you up as the hungry caterpillar this month because 1. you are more of a snacker lately and always wanting a sip of milk here and there and 2. we had caterpillars that we just watched change into butterflies, so it was only fitting! Eric Carle books are classics, and The Hungry Caterpillar is in our regular rotation. Much like a caterpillar transforms into a butterfly, you have taken our lives and transformed them for the better!

Growth:

You had your six month appointment two weeks ago. You were 15.5 pounds in the 8th percentile, and you are 28 inches long. That's in the 90th percentile! You are the height now that Sully was at one year old! Because you are long and lean, you can fit in a huge range of sizes depending on the fit. The green outfit for your costume is 9-12 months, but you can also wear just 6 months or 6-9 months. For new skills, you can do so much! You can almost sit up on your own, and tummy time is easy for you because you can really arch up and look around. You can roll both ways, but sometimes you forget that you can go from your belly to your back, so we have to help you over. You can reach for things and have picked out favorite things you'll play with (your green dino teether is your fave!), and you make noises at us to copy what you hear. Possibly my favorite new thing is the way that you grab our cheeks when we pick you up and hold you close to your face. I love it so much! I left you for the first time since meeting you to take a quick trip with Sully to New Jersey. We had a great time, but I missed you! It seemed like you had grown so much just in the three nights were were away.

Milk/Food:

Since we're doing baby led weaning, we're waiting until you can sit fully unassisted to start food. But, you can fit safely and comfortably in the high chair that hooks to the table, so you are joining us in that at dinner instead of being held. We're excited for you to start food soon! You're eating still only 4 ounces at a time right now. Occasionally, you'll want a little more before bed, but you've been more interested in snacking lately.

Sleep:

Somewhere along the way, you've decided to wake more at night. The wakings range from a grumble where you put yourself back to sleep to an all out cry that requires a feeding. Even if you don't need us to come in there, it wakes me up, so while we may not come into your room unless we know you're hungry, I'm awake. I don't mind being sleepy so much because you're adorable and worth it.

Naps are finally somewhat on a schedule-ish. You can stretch longer amounts, so most days, we can get away with two naps if we're at home. If we're in the car, and you fall asleep, it's more of a 3-4 small naps, but we're getting there.

Favorite Moments:

-Christmas: This Christmas was, by far, the best one I've ever had! We decided to stay at our house, and it was all things magical. We went to church Christmas Eve, and Christmas morning was slow and simple and quiet. Everyone just played with their toys and hung out in jammies, and it will forever be the best.

-Home: I've always been a homebody, but since you've been here, especially, I just want to be home with y'all all of the time. Going places and doing things are fun and necessary, but at the end of the day, I just want you guys. This month, I've looked up so many times and just been immensely grateful for my life. You and Sully, especially, but also Eloise play so well together. You interact with them now, and they get the biggest kick out of it. Sully and Eloise are great helpers with you, and most of the time, we all congregate together. I love it so very much.

Just like a caterpillar, you'll change so much in your life. You'll grow into things, out of things, and transform several times over. I'm really excited to get to be a part of watching all that you'll be. I love you, bug.

Love,

Mom
