My Love Nug,

The other day I was at Target in the Starbucks line when I saw a mom and a young girl ahead of me. They were laughing and talking and ordered fun drinks before starting their shopping. It was then that I first got super excited about having a daughter. Don't get me wrong, I've loved you all along, but I hadn't thought specifically far into the future other than with general things and the present things like rocking and feeding you. But seeing those two together reminded me of the fun things Sugar did with me: making jewelry, watching movies, painting our nails. There’s no guarantee you’ll love the things I love, and that’s okay; I am certain there will be crossover in our hobbies and activities and that one day, that will be me and you in the Target line. The future is so exciting because I know we’ll find all sorts of things to explore and adventures to go on!
Growth: At your 2 month appointment on January 6th, you weighed 11 pounds and 11 ounces. You are 40th percentile in weight and 50th in height, so your proportions make you a roly poly but still small. I love all of your squishy, and we have to regularly double check when we bathe you because you have so many rolls. You are still in a 0-3 month size jammies and onesies and 3 month pants because of your belly.
Your neck control is crazy to me! You can basically sit up with us holding you under your arms, and if we lay you on the Boppy, you do this wiggly sit up where you end up sitting up and then hunched over.
We had a little scare last Sunday: I did not get out of bed early enough, and because of that, we were rushed to get to church. Everyone was throwing on clothes and trying to get out the door on time, all while it was snowing. I got you dressed and noticed a red spot on your foot, but I thought it was a print from your Owlet sock. We let Sully feel the snow for one second at church, and we rushed in to drop you guys off at nursery. After church, when I picked you up, the lady told me that your sock came off, and then she noticed it was bleeding. I tried my best not to panic, but instantly, I was concerned. The pad of your foot was purple, and in between your toes was blood and drainage. The sweet lady in the nursery was concerned and prayed for you, and then we drove to an Urgent Care. I ran in first to ask if they could take you, but none of them took infants. I didn't want to take you to the ER because it didn't feel like a major emergency, but I knew that you needed to be looked at to rule out infection. Mama's two friends helped me out so much and directed me to the new ER which was less crowded which made me feel better about Covid exposure; the other friend helped me with questions and what else to look for. We have no idea exactly what or when it happened, but it's assumed a bug bit you. They gave us antibiotics to keep on file, but thankfully, we were able to handle it without them. It's still a little purple, but the pediatrician said that it could be a busted blood vessel from the actual bite. You had your mom worried!
Your hair! It's just growing taller, and I am here for it! It's so soft and manageable after we wash it, but after you sleep, it's just everywhere!
Sleep: You’ve been sleeping through the night except for this last leap (leap 3). Your brother literally never slept I, so we didn’t have as much of an indication when he was learning a new skill, but with you, it’s interrupted your sleep. It was only 4 nights, but Dad and I had already grown accustomed to sleeping through the night again, so it was rough there for a minute. For naps, we’re just doing the best we can, but because we still want to get out and do things, you usually end up sleeping in the Ergo. It’s a guaranteed nap and it’s built in snuggles, so win/win.
Eating: I don’t know how much you eat in a day. I tried to keep up with it a few days, but there’s no pattern to it. As a rule, you don't eat much in the morning and before bed, it seems like all you do is eat. What I do know is that I freeze anywhere between 12-18 ounces each day. As of now, I’ve pumped 3,852 ounces.

Favorite Moments:
Zoo: Dad traveled out of town for work last weekend, so it was our first solo nights together with you, me, and Sully. I don’t know why, but I really wanted to prove to myself that I could take you and Sully on a large outing. To the zoo we went! I packed lunches and snacks the night before, and we tried our best to roll out in time to get there when the zoo opened. It was a little later than I planned by a half hour, but we traveled an hour, stayed for 3 and a half hours, and traveled an hour back. You only fussed when I stopped for coffee and right before we got home and no one cried the entire trip! Your brother had the time of his life on the train and swing, and you napped sweetly in the Ergo.

Movies: One of Sully’s favorite movies is “Sing,” so we wanted to take him to see the sequel in theaters. We packed all the snacks, our headphones for both of you guys, and low expectations. You both did amazingly! Sully sat through the entire thing with no issue, and you had a diaper blowout, but never fussed. It’s so fun bringing you along with activities we already love, and we are excited to include us in whatever your interests are, too!

Christmas: Christmas was fun this year even though you had no idea what’s going on. We try to keep our gifts intentional, minimal, and lasting. From Mom and Dad, you got a foam mat that blends in with the house, a sheep blanket, and some books. We traveled south, and you rode and adjusted to a new place like a champ.
Likes/Dislikes:
Likes:
-Sully: You smile the biggest when he talks to you.
-Playing “flying baby” with Dad
-Taking naps with Dad in the recliner
-Sitting up to see what everyone is doing
-Sleeping in the Ergo
Dislikes:
-This one is hard! You're mostly easy going except for normal baby stuff like being hungry: you sleep so well that you wake up and are instantly starving, so I keep a bottle on deck at all times.

Now let's load up and go to Target!
Love,
Mom
